1. Encourage them to make their own diary: Let them write everything about their feelings, opinion, view and others alike. Also let them know that they could use their diary as their tool to let bad feelings out. This is also a good practice to maintain a written record of their goals for the week, month, and even year.
2. Spend time with them as much as possible: Though I know this is a bit hard for you to do especially when you are working. However, you can spend time with them through simple things like when you’re at home cook dinner for them and eat together you can even ask your teenagers to help you prepare the foods or take them in a short but enjoyable vacation. This way, you’re letting them feel that they are being love because you’re giving them your time.
3. Encourage them to pray: Praying will guide them in their journey as a teenager. By doing this, you can be sure that they will not manifest symptoms of a troubled teenager.
4. Teach them the value of money: Let them know the real value of money and teach them to save. Ask them to not waste money on colas, cigarette or even alcohol.
5. Encourage them to excel at school. As a parent, you can assist them in their high school life. Encourage them also to join in extracurricular activities. This way, they will know where they should put their concentration to stand out. As parent, you can help them by giving your full support in every activity they like to do.
6. Educate them about the bad side of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes: Teen age life is the stage when experimentation and curiosity comes out. Tell them what these vices could bring and as much as possible avoid them by using one.
Parents should know how to discipline teenagers in a right way. These will make their teenage years worth remembering and help them to deal with many issues that they will encounter.
